What does this mean?
At WSM we chose that word carefully. To me crafting says something is made by you or just for you. It’s one of a kind. Homemade. It’s a combination of expertise and artistic ability that brings things to life in a never before seen way.
That’s how we approach the work that we do. Using our hands and a lot of heart. But it’s all powered by the connection we made in our first step.
Putting 50+ years to work for you.
Our team has had more than 30 years experience building videos. We’ve learned the fundamental skills that every production’s foundation is built upon. Things like lighting and shot composition and the importance of acquiring good audio. And to that we combine the innovation of today’s technology. But it’s also remembering that you are the hero in the story, not us.
But there are limits.
We do draw the line here. We strive to never let too much technology or too much technique get in the way of clearly communicating your message. Here are a couple of examples:
Example 1: Weather Hat Company
The Weather Hat Company has been around as a brand since the early 1900’s. A few years ago, the new owners came to us to create their story told in 30-seconds- it has to show that even though times have changed, their quality and craftsmanship has not. We crafted the spot using transportation modes to show the passage of time, while showcasing the various actors wearing various hats, whose quality and craftsmanship have never changed over time. Techniques used included booms and stedicams and technology was simply a little color grading and subtle dissolves. The message is simple and understood- quality that never changes.
Example 2: Wi-Flyer
A tech company came to us with an innovative real estate marketing tool they invented that transmits real estate brochures, and videos of a home for sale right to your blue-tooth device while your remain curbside in your car. It’s called Wi-Flyer.
To demonstrate the convenience we used a house-shopping young couple who played a game of rock paper scissors to see who had to go out in the rain to get the soaked paper flyer out of the box. Contrast that with the house shopping couple who was using wi-flyer. Techniques included building a simple rain machine and technology included a few special effects for the lightning and thunder and using 3-D modeling to give the piece a bit of a smart-techno feel. The message is simple and understood – convenience.
As a business owner, you know we live in a visual world; a video-centric world. And video seems confusing, complicated and too expensive. At Western Sky, our skills at crafting remove those barriers because we know how to use the fundamentals and technology to craft your simple message in the most efficient way possible. And with today’s advancements in metrics, tracking your ROI has never been easier.
It’s one of my favorite days when our new partners get to see the finished video. There’s nothing like the feeling of seeing your story come to life in a brand new way.
